Nomad Weddings NZ is a Queenstown-based elopement photography and planning company specialising in intimate ground ceremonies across the South Island of New Zealand. Deer Park Heights is one of the most dramatic accessible locations we offer. It is a private permit site above Queenstown with mountain panoramas, open tussock land, and the kind of silence that is difficult to find this close to town. It is also one of the Lord of the Rings filming locations in the region. The elevated plateau gives you wide open skies and views across the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu. No helicopter, no altitude restrictions, and more time at the location than a mountain landing allows. The permit is secured by us in advance, so no members of the public can access the area during your ceremony.
This package suits couples who want a genuine mountain setting without helicopter logistics, those who want to bring a small group of guests, or anyone who prefers less weather dependency than a heli package involves. It is not the right fit for couples whose priority is a remote summit landing or a two-location aerial day.
Deer Park Heights is a ground-access location. Weather affects all outdoor ceremonies, but without helicopter dependency this package carries less weather risk than heli packages. Date flexibility is available as an add-on.

What your
day looks like.
Times are indicative. We build your schedule around your hair and makeup booking and the permit window at Deer Park Heights. No helicopter means more flexibility on the day.
Hair, makeup and flowers
Your makeup artist arrives at your accommodation. Photographers arrive shortly after to capture the preparations and first look. Flowers delivered to your door. Optional, but most couples book it.
Drive to Deer Park Heights
We leave about 30 minutes after hair and makeup wraps. The celebrant meets us at the base of Deer Park Heights and we drive up together. Use the facilities before we leave. There are none at the top.
Deer Park Heights ceremony
The ceremony runs about 10 to 15 minutes on the plateau above Queenstown. Then we have another 45 minutes on location: roaming animals, open tussock, and unobstructed views of the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu.
Lakeside photoshoot
Your day continues down to Lake Wakatipu. A different setting, different light, and a change of mood that keeps the shoot feeling fresh. About an hour, then we drop you back at your accommodation.

The marriage licence costs NZ$150 and must be arranged at least three working days before your ceremony. We walk you through the process after booking.
