Vaccinations & Elopements in Queenstown New Zealand

Do you need to be vaccinated to have an Elopement Wedding in Queenstown New Zealand?

No, Vaccination Certificates / Passports aren’t required for having small Elopements and Intimate Weddings.

Under the New Zealand Government’s new “Traffic Light” system, here’s what can happen:

  • In a “Red Light” Zone, Weddings and civil union ceremonies can happen with up to 10 people.
  • In an “Orange Light” Zone, there can be up to 50 people, based on 1 metre physical distancing.
  • In a “Green Light” Zone, there can be up to 100 people, based on 1 metre physical distancing.

Since Elopements are generally very small (under 10 people), vaccination passes won’t be required. The government’s outlines also don’t mention 1 metre physical distancing being needed.

However, Vaccination Certificates will be required for:

  • Boarding helicopters due to them being “close proximity businesses”
  • Boarding domestic or international flights, if vaccine passes become a requirement
  • Traveling on the Inter-Islander ferry, if vaccine passes become a requirement

This means that if you are coming from out of town to Queenstown for a wedding, you will most likely need to be vaccinated to get here. For Heli Weddings, all the Helicopter companies in the region are now requiring proof of vaccination to be able to board flights.
