Heli Wedding on The Remarkables.

Altitude
~2,300m
Snow Season
June to October
Flight Time
Four minutes each way

A summit you can actually get married on.

The Remarkables is the long jagged ridgeline you see across Lake Wakatipu from Queenstown town centre. Single Cone, the higher of the two main peaks, reaches 2,319 metres. Our heli wedding landing site sits high on the range with uninterrupted views west across the lake. The Crown Range curls to the north. Cecil Peak sits directly across the water.

It is also the closest mountain we fly to. Four minutes from Queenstown Airport, give or take. That makes it the most accessible alpine ceremony in our heli wedding range, and the easiest to fit around a tight schedule or a short weather window. If you want a proper alpine ceremony without a long flight, this is where most couples start.

Couldn’t recommend Nomad Weddings any higher. They were so accommodating with us having some guests, and everything ran so smoothly even though the weather didn’t play ball. They communicated well throughout the lead up and through the day. They treated us like friends and family and made everyone feel special, including the guests. The day was everything and more than we could have asked for.

A heli wedding day on The Remarkables.

Most heli wedding days follow the same simple shape. Times below are indicative; the actual schedule is built around your hair and makeup booking, helicopter availability and ceremony preference.

  1. From 11am

    Hair, makeup & flowers

Morning prep at your accommodation. Photographers arrive to capture preparations and the first look. Flowers are delivered. Optional, but most couples book it through us.

  2. ~1:45pm

    Helicopter check-in

We leave about thirty minutes after hair and makeup wraps. The celebrant meets us at the hangar. There are no cafes or bathrooms on the mountain, so use them here.

  3. ~2:15pm

    Mountain ceremony

A four minute flight to the summit. The ceremony runs ten to fifteen minutes, then about forty-five minutes of summit photography. The light, the scale, the silence.

  4. ~3:45pm

    Lakeside portraits

Back to Queenstown, then about an hour of lakeside portraits at Lake Wakatipu, the longest lake in New Zealand. Different light, different setting. Drop-off at your accommodation.

Questions about The Remarkables.

The Remarkables landing site sits at approximately 2,300 metres above sea level. Single Cone, the highest peak in the range, reaches 2,319 metres or 7,608 feet. It is one of the highest backdrops accessible by helicopter in the Queenstown region.
Reliable snow runs from mid June to early October. July and August are the deepest. Outside winter, the summit is exposed rock with low alpine plants. Many couples deliberately choose the rocky season for warmer, more comfortable conditions.
Around four minutes each way from Queenstown Airport. The Remarkables is the closest alpine summit we fly to, which is why this location sits at the most accessible end of our heli wedding range.
Hiking boots are strongly recommended for the bride. The terrain is rocky and uneven outside snow season, and slippery in winter. Bring a warm layer or shawl; summit temperatures can sit ten degrees below town. We can carry your shoes for portraits and have you change into them once we land.
Roughly an hour. The ceremony runs ten to fifteen minutes, followed by around forty-five minutes of summit photography. Long enough not to feel rushed.
All helicopter operations are subject to weather and aviation safety conditions. We make a weather call two days before your wedding. If conditions are unsuitable, we work with you to reschedule to a suitable alternative date. Because our team is based in Queenstown year-round, date changes involve far less disruption than if your photographer were travelling in. A wet weather backup date can be added to your package.
